IF YOU LIVED HERE YOU'D BE HOME ALREADY
SUP EVERYBODY
So it’s Friday of the last week of Spring Term, and all I’ve got lined up is one Final on Monday and two on Tuesday and I am OUTTA HERE. I’m taking the summer off!
I got myself a summer jorb with my old nemesis Venture Data. I hated it there for the 3 years of my life they sucked from my bones, but for a summer job you pretty much can’t beat it. It’s the only place in town I can think of where you can say “HEY GUYS I’m gonna be gone for four days for a music festival” and they’re “OKAY see you when you get back!” Plus I’ll get to hang out with my friends that work there, who I have not gotten to see NEARLY enough of during the school year.
So Husband and I have a plan to party all summer, and there are a LOT of local events to get to. And we plan to try to reach them ALL. I’m not saying we’re gonna be successful ‘cause we’ve got rent and bills and shit after all. But we’re gonna try.
1. Cascadia Soulstice Festival (cascadiasoulstice.com), June 21 - 22
I don’t know if we’re gonna be able to make it to this one for sure, but it’s right here in Eugene at the Cuthbert Ampitheatre and Damian Marley, Shpongle, Beats Antique, local favorites March Fourth Marching Band, and more. $40 a person for a one-day ticket though.
2. Wonderland: Golden Afternoon (wonderlandwest.com), June 22-24
All local hip-hop and electronica acts near the Oregon Country Fair grounds in Veneta, OR; benefiting Food Not Bombs. Only $20 for a 3-day camping pass! :O (Also the 24th is my birthday, W00T)
3. Human Nature (humannaturefestival.com) June 28 - July 1
Electronica and arts festival at Prindel Creek Farm in Tidewater, OR (about 2 hours outside Eugene). $95 for a 3-day camping pass.
4. Oregon Country Fair (oregoncountryfair.org), July 12 - 14
If you live in Eugene for any length of time you have to go to the Oregon Country Fair at least once. It’s not a “music festival” per se, though they do have lots of great live music of all genres. It’s a let-it-all-hang-out hippie freak weirdo extravaganza in the magical forest of the Oregon Country Fairgrounds in Veneta, OR. Ticket prices vary depending on whether you decide to go on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or all three days.
5. Faerieworlds (faerieworlds.com), July 26 - 28
Right here in Eugene (at Mt. Pisgah), the “International Faerie Festival” brings in just about the kind of crowd (and music) you might expect. Last year they hosted Donovan as the headliner, which was pretty freaking cool. If you like fairies, dragons, and ren-faires but you wish they were more sexy and magical, you might wanna check this out. There are a couple different kinds of camping passes you can buy depending on where you want to camp or how long, so the prices vary.
By the way, this is the same weekend as the Lane County Fair so you may have to decide if you like rickety-ass rollercoasters and thrill rides and junk food better.
6. Beloved Festival (belovedfestival.com), August 9 - 13
We’ve never been to this one before, but this is I think the third year that it’s been put on and it looks very interesting. A “Sacred Art and Music Festival”, it’s pretty new agey (as most things are here in Oregon) and it’s also held in Tidewater Falls, east of Tidewater, OR. Looks pretty awesome.
AND FINALLY, THE BIG ONE:
7. Kaleidoscope Music Festival (kaleidoscopemusicfestival.com), August 23 - 25
GOTTA make it to this one. The first annual Kaleidoscope festival is held right here in Eugene near Mt. Pisgah (at Emerald Meadows) by local production company One Eleven, known for hosting some of the BEST electronica acts. And my man Bassnectar is headlining the event, ERMAGERD! There’s a ton of amazing acts, most notably Paper Diamond, Afroman, Empire of the Sun, and OTHERS OTHERS OTHERS. $193.99 for a 3-day GA pass (plus fees), plus another $25 for use of the campground. It’s expensive but probably worth it.
Are you planning on hitting up any of these local Oregon events? Let me know, maybe we can hang out! :3
I love mew guys.
Here’s one of the coolest things about #Eugene’s #MarchAgainstMonsanto: on top of the rain breaking just long enough for the protest to run its course, there was this amazing rainbow halo around the sun the whole afternoon. This was my best chance to actually get a photo of it. :3

I was there yesterday at #Eugene’s #MarchAgainstMonsanto! The event was a huge success, with our police escorts estimating over 2000 people participating! More pics to come. :3

Reminder for #Eugene people: there’s going to be a rally for marriage equality outside the Federal Building today from 5 to 7pm. Be there or be a jerk.

I know I haven’t been around much lately but I’ve been trying to get my shit together.
You may have gathered that Husband and I moved! We’ve been back in Eugene for almost a month now and we are SO HAPPY with our new apartment! It’s way more affordable for us and we have our own garden to take care of and we like our neighbors a lot. The neighborhood is awesome and we’re close to everything! So yeah we are pretty stoked, ‘specially about having more disposable income. And I’m close to so many of my friends now! And I can volunteer for the WOW Hall more often since it’s only like two blocks away. Crizzly is gonna be performing this Saturday and I’m gonna try to work that show. Husband might wanna, too.
Husband is a wizard now. I mean, he always has been but now he looks like one. We lifted the color out of his hair and toned it and now he’s platinum blonde. White as snow. It’s crazy. He also ordered a churchwarden (or long-stemmed) pipe which should probably be arriving today. So I think that will officially make him a wizard.
Winter term is over and unfortunately due to assorted hardship and mental stress I had to drop my classes AGAIN. I know, this is totally unheard of. I dropped them back in week 7 and I’m still working on my financial aid appeal. But I am excited because Spring term means I get to start on my new major, Graphic Design! I’m registered for “Digital Design Tools”, “Photography 1” and “Music Technology - MIDI/Audio 1”. I just hope I get my financial aid situation straightened out really soon. I’m nervous as fuck about that. I’ll let you know how it goes. In the meantime I have to start shopping for work so I can make rent just in case there’s a problem with my appeal and/or my financial aid award for the term is delayed.
Other than that I’ve just been working my transcription gig a lot so I can make rent. You know how it is.
